One of the challenges of sci-fi RPGs is that there's no real limit on backwards compatibility of individual weapons.


In addition to all manner of laser guns and interplanetary nukes, some dude can still carry around a broadsword.


How granular should you try to make your future-forward RPG when there's always some dude with a crossbow lurking out there, and you need to stat them out, too?

It would really depend on what type of game you are running. If it's exploration (something like Star Trek) then you would need to spend a little time on creating stats for archaic weapons. If most of the action takes place in an advanced setting then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Of course, you still have to worry about improvised weapons. Some dude might pick up a holo lamp and take a swing at someone.  :nerd:
