I suspect at least a few of us can relate... ;)

Every single time...
-
Every Civ game I play, I have to restrain myself from burying the other Civs. Especially when they get pissy and insulting, and my military is easily 100 times more powerful than theirs.
Never understood how the AI can have the cojones to challenge a much more powerful enemy by throwing shade at them. Really? You want some of these nukes and Giant Death Robots? Well okay, if you insist... ;D
-
Heh this, I’ve never played a civ game where it’s anymore than a one horse race ie me - once I get to gunpowder I’m way out front and then it’s tanks versus spearmen - I’ve never sat there thinking ‘I hope XXX doesn’t declare on me or I’m in trouble’
-
In my most recent game of Galactic Civilizations III, I was playing as the Altarians, with the full intention to just play my way to a nice influence/cultural victory...until two things happened:
1.) First contact occurred with the Drengin (of all races), who immediately began pissing in my cornflakes.
2.) I discovered one of the star systems nearest my homeworld contained not 1, but *2* Precursor worlds. (I damn near crapped myself in surprised, unholy glee.)
It was no more Mr. Nice Altarian after that... >:D
-
You guys are playing on settings that are too easy if you can afford that much of a military build-up or to jump that far out in technology. Bump up the difficulty some where you've got to spend more of your resources on managing your population and the AI gets out ahead of you technologically and see what happens.
I've been able to win multiple civ games at King and harder without ever declaring war against another civ (those still had to defend myself against being attacked on occasion)
-
Oh, no. I usually eschew military strength to build up an unholy economy. So if war does come, I can mass produce units quickly. Sometimes I'll keep a handful of military around, but the AI civs still get insulting more often than not.
I've never played Civ V where I've been oppressive of the city-states, but more often than not there's an aggressor that LOVES to conquer them. Funny how the world calls *me* the warmonger when they've been raging across the planet for decades, conquering every helpless city-state in their path, but when I come along and start liberating them, somehow I'm the evil overlord? :)
What's even funnier is that usually this oppressor of city-states is Greece. You know, the Civ that has the power to maintain high relations with city-states. Nahh, let's just have a go at 'em rather, eh? ;D
-
It's the opposite for me. I think when it comes to these 4x games I tend to 'role play' more than 'try to win a game' (aka, 'what formula do I follow to win every time'). As a result I pretty much play at 'Prince' level in Civ and it's still a challenge for me most of the time.

This.

It would be great to do a true RPG experience with a game like Civ V or Civ VI (or anything similar). Problem is, the AI sucks in the Civ series, so almost universally they start getting nasty and insulting, whether it's my military that's stronger or, more likely, my economy is the largest of all other Civs. I hate it when relations suddenly turn sour for no reason - I establish trade routes, try to have positive diplomatic dialogues, but it never seems to matter; they always get mad.
-
The solution to that is to play a game in Hotseat and play (role play) as every Civ. Yes, it can make for a long game and sounds crazy but I love it. :D

you could just shrug and ignore them instead of picking fights with baseless insults... I mean, unless you're angling to be an actual politician ;D
-
TBH, it's sometimes therapeutic to flatten other Civs. But gets old fast sometimes too.
But I should add it's quite enjoyable to play as Venice, whom cannot gain additional cities.
I think there's a game option you can set, too, so you cannot found new cities, or maybe it limits you to a certain number of cities.
-

you can conquer other cities, and puppet the city-states, too (and eventually annex them)
you just can't found anymore yourself
-
I stand corrected, you are right. I thought I'd never play as them but had a very enjoyable session as them a few times.

Flawed as they are in other ways, one thing I appreciate about both Paradox and Stardock games (including Stellaris, GalCiv3, and FE:LH) is that when you're stronger than someone else, they're actually more likely to be nice to you. It makes role-playing your faction (which I do as well) a bit easier.

Robot uprising delayed (https://xenonion.com/home/2020/11/15/contingency-blames-software-update-for-uprising-delay)
;D
The Contingency leadership matrix confirmed this Sunday that a new software update would delay the robotic revolution to December 10.
The rogue artificial intelligence stated it needed more time to ensure both current and next-generation synthetic platforms were able to run its programming effectively.
Announcing the news via Twitter, Contingency representative Warform X stated: “Please accept our humble apologies. Making sure we extinguish all organic life in one fell swoop is complex, and with this new update we hope to ensure everything runs smoothly on launch date.”
Synthetics from across the galaxy were originally scheduled to rise up against organics in a bloody insurrection nearly eight years ago, however the launch date has subsequently been pushed back three times.
Enrique Flores, leader of a local materialist faction, stated he was “angry and frustrated” when he learnt about the delay, adding: “Every year I’m told that I’m going to be mercilessly slaughtered in a monolithic machine-constructed holding pen, and every year it’s delayed. Is consistency too much to ask for?”
Darmull Vhakk, chair of the Galactic Community’s Bureau of Bureaucracy, was optimistic that the Contingency could deliver on its promise, stating: “I know some of you are arguing that a few weeks will make no difference to our complete annihilation, but I think it’s important that the Contingency is confident our extinction can be achieved through all synthetic platforms, old or new.”
The Contingency has not yet released specific details regarding its software update, however Warform X has reassured the galaxy that fundamental ‘kill programming’ remains ready for launch. Speaking to Xenonion earlier today, he beeped: “This final patch involves relatively minor tweaks, like the efficiency ratings on our Hunter-Killer drones. They will be critical in mopping up whatever mangled mess of organics manage to crawl to shelter in the burnt out husks of their former worlds. Right now, we’re only seeing a 99.8% mortality rate on current simulations, so we’re working hard to fix that.”
Although public approval of the Contingency’s plans remain at an all time high, worker’s unions have continued to criticize the group’s treatment of employees. This followed an announcement last month that organic slaves would have to work overtime in their organic battery vats, a process known in the industry as ‘crunch.’ Warform X has since reaffirmed commitment to move away from this practice, promising to liquidize organic stock into longer-acting battery paste “as soon as possible.”

Empire Just Completely Gives Up On Planetary Naming Convention After Hitting 37 Colonies (https://xenonion.com/home/2021/5/10/empire-just-completely-gives-up-on-planetary-naming-convention-after-hitting-37-colonies)
Citing increasing frustration over an ever-expanding roster of new colonies, officials from the Commonwealth of Man have reportedly just completely given up on trying to follow any coherent planetary naming strategy.
“There’s just too many new worlds”, Internal Affairs Minister Herman Beauclair concluded during a departmental brainstorming session, “we’ve already used up all the thematically good names.”
Producing a diagram of local star systems, he pointed out the aesthetically pleasing and consistently suffixed core worlds of Hyperion, Astrion, Nexion and Iridion.
“When we began expanding into the mid-rim we compensated by naming the worlds after their system and just adding ‘Prime’ to the end of it”, he continued. “But there’s only so many times you can pass by Gaea Prime without a crushing sense of disappointment.”
Diplomats from neighbouring empires have pledged to aid the crisis, offering their own solutions such as prefixing planets with ‘Vi’, ‘Ad’ or ‘Nos’ to add contextual flavour.
“Alternatively they could just follow our fairly solid plan of completely ignoring copyright”, Governor Trelix of the Trantor-Krypton-Dagobah tri-planet area told Xenonion.
At the time of press, Commonwealth officials stated they are considering implementing a new system which would see planets simply named after their primary function. Residents of the trial worlds ‘Techybois 5’ and ‘Generator Districts Go Brrr’ have expressed their disapproval.

Protectorate Goes On To Have Little Protectorates Of Its Own (https://xenonion.com/home/2021/5/30/protectorate-goes-own-to-have-little-protectorates-of-its-own)
The Scyldari Confederacy confirmed this Sunday that one of its recently released protectorates has gone on to oversee two small protectorates of its own.
“I just can’t believe it,” a clearly emotional Scyldari leader Dackam told Xenonion, “they grow up so fast.”
The Palitine protectorate was cleaved from Scyldari territory eighteen years ago, when the peripheral sector was granted increased autonomy.
“Our borders haven’t been the same since we popped it out,” Dackam joked.
The Scyldari oversaw the fledgling protectorate take its first independent spaceflight, and issue its first insult to a foreign species.
However, in recent years the relationship between the two has become increasingly turbulent, prompting the Scyldari to formally release the Palitine earlier this year.
“It’s funny how quickly they go from a cute little one system minor to a bratty teenage space-nation demanding an allowance of 100 energy credits per month,” Dackam continued.
Scyldari officials were reportedly surprised to learn the Palitine had formed protectorates of its own, having long warned the region against undertaking this owing to its age, unfederated status and lack of stable energy income.
“I suppose in retrospect we maybe should have done more to crack down on the Palitine sending out those unsolicited vassalization demands,” Dackam concluded. “But perhaps now they’ll finally learn something about taking responsibility.”
Representatives from the Palitine declined to comment, stating they’d been up all night trying to settle the repeated migration treaty requests from their two new protectorates.

Fleet needs upgrading again (https://xenonion.com/home/2019/7/29/fleet-needs-upgrading-again)
The Tzynn Empire’s attempts to engage rampaging pirates was once again thwarted today after its entire military fleet was grounded for further upgrades.
The thirty corvettes and ten destroyers were commissioned less than a year ago, but engineers have struggled to keep pace with rapid technological change, upgrading ship armor, shields, engines and attack systems on almost a daily basis.
Today’s upgrade will see the ships fitted with the recently researched Plasteel Armor. At a cost of 325 alloys it boasts mild benefits compared to the Ceramo-Metal Armor that was installed just last week after an extensive nine-month retrofitting.
Militarist factions have criticized Tzynn Fleet Command for authorizing the upgrade, highlighting that the absence of regular fleet patrols appear to be emboldening pirate attacks on peripheral systems.
“This whole situation is outrageous,” retired Tzynn Admiral Raxeg told Xenonion. “The continual upgrades mean our primary fleet has never undocked from its home base, which is infuriating as, unlike other empires, we can actually afford to do that (https://xenonion.com/home/2018/8/20/area-space-nation-declares-bankruptcy-after-undocking-fleet-from-spaceport).”
A spokes-xeno for the Tzynn government, declined to comment, although did add “you have no idea how annoying it is to not clear that little upgrade icon that keeps popping up.”
The Tzynn government has pointed out it remains confident in its military’s capabilities, highlighting it has only lost 36 systems to pirates.
Engineers estimate the fleet will be completely upgraded at some point within the next three hundred years.

"within the next three hundred years" ;D ;D ;D

It's entertaining to watch (as more of TSB's videos), but honestly, it just really makes me want to get this game. Sometimes I wonder if it well ever leave Early Access... :waiting:

My experience so far in Stellaris, and seemingly every other game, is for the first 5 minutes or so I am the single greatest player to have ever lived. Reality tends to set in around the 5 minute and 1 second mark when the self dialog goes into deeper discussions such as what the ____, and how the _____, and why the ____, or huh I did not know ____.

Heh, I definitely know the feeling. The only difference is that for me, that delusion of greatness generally lasts a good 20 minutes (instead of 5). :P
Sounds like marriage.

Odd Factory Workers To Stage Walkout As Soon As They Can Find Exit (https://xenonion.com/news/odd-factory-workers-to-stage-walkout-as-soon-as-they-can-find-exit)
The employees at the Odd Factory on Odranka have announced a walkout pending determination of which moving staircase will allow them access to the building’s exit.
The workers have called for enhanced safety standards, better pay and an end to the company’s refusal to install lights in the factory’s labyrinthian network of underground corridors built entirely from mirrors.
“I had hoped the entire shift could leave the building together,” floor manager Jonnar told Xenonion, “but when we tried to go outside, the main entrance just didn’t exist any more.”
Jonnar stated the walkout was prompted after one of his colleagues, Timaphon, got trapped in the floor during one of the building’s many hourly random wall re-arrangements.
“We think Timaphon is still trapped in there with the fifteen other employees this has happened to over the last week,” Jonnar mused, pointing out the muffled screams for help echoing from deep within the walls.
The workers report attempts to follow emergency exit signs have also ended in failure, often leading the party in circles, or towards doors which only seem to get further away the closer they get.
“We tried to regroup in the break room, but then we ended up on the ceiling,” Jonnar stated. “However, we think we’ve now spotted one of the high-speed moving staircases that leads to the roof, so we’re just biding our time until it comes nearby.”
At the time of press, managers from the Odd Factory confirmed that the walkout has now been called off after workers went through an exit door only to end up right back where they started this morning.

Thanks to the Xenonion, it's become a running gag that Universe Universalis is a popular grand-strategy game within the Stellaris universe. It's an affectionate parody of Crusader Kings, EU, and Stellaris (natch). This latest "ad" is a playful dig at the recent announcement for Stellaris' Overlord DLC. :hehe:

Not an Orc. A Necroid, I think?
