So I've been running some real basic "RPG sessions" for my 5 year old roughly based on D&D5e and he's enjoyed it but hasn't really connected with the fantasy theme. Recently, as kids do, he has been on a big space kick and talking about lasers and aliens etc.  So now I have the idea to try and run some sci-fi adventures with him but I'm stuck/floundering trying to come up with anything as I really have no Sci-fi RPG experience. I enjoy Sci-fi but my inspiration and familiarity is much more in the fantasy realm. So I'm looking for either a sci-fi RPG for kids or recommendations on a sci-fi setting/system that I can learn and simplify for my son.

this might work, too, but there's a couple of different products you need to get with it

Tiny Frontiers: Revised is a minimalist RPG that you use to run just about any setting you want. It starts off pretty basic but you could trim it down even more. They actually have a fantasy version of Tiny Dungeons for kids. I didn't see one for Tiny Frontiers though.

You could also do TWERPS with the Space Cadets and Rocket Rangers settings, and that would work well for a kid, too.  Designed to be a little silly, and with some fun map-&-counter tools, too, that you can color in, as well

Hero Kids is a really good system. Fantasy, SCIFI, and Super Heroes...simple rules and you can just print what you need.
