Can't make it, that's my busiest work week.
-
;D
-
Already blocked the time off in my work calendar. Now I wait to see if Pride or some other big-enough-for-my-wife's-job event ends up the same weekend. I think that's the weekend they'll be doing Pride?
-
Hmm...
-
I suspect that it will be beyond my means................
-
I suspect that it will be beyond my means................
we're gonna start a GoFundMe
-
I would literally love to.
It's my 30th Wedding Anniversary next year - maybe I could persuade the wife to have a holiday in....where again?
-
Columbus, OH is not much of a garden spot, but there are plenty of other places in the US we're going to but you can easily get to and from Columbus while you're there
-
Like I said yesterday, I'll try. It depends on financials and I won't be entirely clear on that until early next year. :-\
-
Third World War from Compass (big-ass rolling scenario)
Salerno '43 from GMT Games
PanzerBlitz with the PicoArmor guys
Undaunted with David Thompson
a whole bunch of stuff from Catastrophe Games
Littoral Commander w/ Sebastian Bae
Song For War: Mediterranean Theater w/ Invictus Rex
maybe an ASL tournament?
plus the CPX's and more
-
Anyone else planning on heading to Origins this Summer?
I could use another GM or two for the wargaming program. Just PM me when you get a sec and I can talk details with you, but I have a very short timeline to get the finalized schedule in

Announced today
Origins 2023 Mask & Covid Vaccine Policy
Origins Game Fair is not requiring masks or proof of covid vaccination to attend Origins this year. However, please be aware that if either the Centers for Disease Control or state/local governmental organizations require us to change this policy, we will do so to comply with governmental rules.
No arguing about this, explicitly or implicitly.
It's provided here for your information, not as an invitation for commentary
-
Recognizing that it's still about 10 weeks away, it appears that I will be at Origins and likely Wednesday thru Sunday. When might a rough even calendar show up? And is there anything in particular you need a hand with?
-
waiting on our event to get approved! (and we're not the only ones, either)
we've even submitted our table layout this year, which ought to help with the setup time, too
If I don't see anything by end of this week, I'm just going to post what we submitted, and figure it's likely to get approved en masse, since they've yet to turn down an event from us
-
Our events are now on the Origins TTE site, but the CSV download hasn't caught up yet (it runs every 24 hours)
https://tabletop.events/conventions/origins-game-fair-2023/schedule#?query=armchair
As soon as I can pull the CSV download, I'll get the extract on our site.
-
Alrighty - here's the ACD Event Schedule
There are a pair of events that got submitted late that might get approved late, or not at all. We'll let you know as we get some clarity on them
Origins 2023 ~ The Wargame HQ With The Armchair Dragoons
There's over 60 wargame events on here, so if anyone tries to claim "there's no wargaming at Origins" you can tell them to pound sand. Or send them to me, and I'll tell them. Or both.

Impressive schedule! best of luck to the AD Origins team and associates. Sounds like fun! :notworthy: BTW, if you didn't see already you got a shout out from Gene Billingsley in his March GMT State of the Company newsletter.
-
we did catch the mention, even if they put an extra space in our name :) Thanks!
Wish you were going to be there with us!
-
GMT mentioned you were going to have Combat Commander, too, but I didn't see it on your list. I've played it literally dozens of times, so I don't think I'd jump into that unless someone needed an opponent, so I was mainly making sure you were aware that either GMT or the list are a bit off.

We submitted them, but they went in late. We don't yet know if (1) they're still processing late submissions, or (2) they were rejected.
Either way, one of 2 things could happen: (1) I get with Origins and get them in the official schedule, or (2) we do it anyway off-the-books on THU night.

OK, the Combat Commander events are in & approved
#5355 THU at 6pm
#5356 THU at 9pm

Very good. I've told Ted that I'd be happy to help out if he needs it. I've got two people I'm going to try to convince to jump into one of the two CC events.

I asked ChatGPT to write a short article about the Armchair Dragoons' Wargame HQ at Origins. While this isn't nearly detailed enough in the specifics of the games, it's actually not too bad as a generic "here's what we do" kind of overview
The Armchair Dragoons Wargame HQ at Origins is a paradise for tabletop gaming enthusiasts. Situated within the prestigious Origins Game Fair, this dedicated space offers a unique experience for wargame lovers. What sets it apart from other gaming areas is the array of special events and activities that can only be found at Origins, making it a must-visit destination for gamers of all stripes.
One of the highlights of Armchair Dragoons Wargame HQ is the special events lineup. Origins offers a range of exclusive activities that cater to various interests and skill levels. From introductory workshops and demos led by industry experts to large-scale multiplayer campaigns, there is an event for everyone. Engage in epic battles, test your strategic prowess, and immerse yourself in the camaraderie of fellow gamers.
Another notable feature is the opportunity to meet and interact with renowned designers and developers. Origins attracts some of the biggest names in the wargaming industry, providing a rare chance to learn from the masters themselves. Attendees can engage in lively discussions, participate in Q&A sessions, and gain valuable insights into the art of game design. These interactions foster a sense of community and enable fans to forge connections with their favorite designers, adding a personal touch to the gaming experience.
In addition to the special events and guest appearances, Armchair Dragoons Wargame HQ offers a diverse selection of gaming tables and resources. Whether you prefer historical simulations, tactical combat, or strategic campaigns, there are plenty of options to explore. The atmosphere is buzzing with excitement as players delve into intense battles, collaborating with friends or engaging in friendly rivalries. The HQ provides an immersive environment where players can dive deep into their favorite games and indulge in their passion for wargaming.
Origins Game Fair is renowned for its dedication to fostering a vibrant gaming community, and Armchair Dragoons Wargame HQ embodies this spirit. The combination of special events, industry icons, and an inviting gaming environment creates a unique experience that sets it apart from other gaming conventions. If you're a wargaming enthusiast seeking the thrill of strategic warfare, camaraderie, and memorable experiences, make sure to check out Armchair Dragoons Wargame HQ at Origins – a haven for gamers that will leave you craving more.

Origins 2023 Countdown ~ The Mailbag!
There are always a bunch of questions about Origins every year. Sometimes, we get the same questions over and over, but from new attendees. Sometimes, we see the same questions from people looking to see if something’s changed from year to year. Sometimes, it’s just the same annoying dude asking the exact same f’n’ question he already knows the answer to, if 5 different venues, desperately hoping someone will be his friend.
But never fear! We’re going to tackle a handful of those questions for you, both about the Wargame HQ and Origins as a whole.

On-Site Origins 2023 ~ Above The Convention
Last year, we included some overhead panorama shots of the overall convention, and they were kind of cool. This year, we went back for more, and linked up with GAMAguy Mike for some access to the overhead suites where we could take some quick pictures.

Origins 2023 ~ Wargame HQ Event Report
We had 67 events on the schedule, which was our second-most ever. Of those, all but 1 had at least one player, and more than a dozen were over-subscribed. It was easily the most well-attended Wargame HQ since we started this back in 2014.

Also, as an added bonus, I brought back bronchitis! :-\

Origins 2023 ~ Day 1 On The Ground
For Origins Game Fest 2023, I was invited to come help out with media work for the Armchair Dragoons, and was told to go off and experience the Fest, and report back what I had done. I signed up for as much as I could, and recorded my games as follows.

Origins 2023 ~ THE RAFFLE!
A staple of the Wargame HQ for all the years we’ve been doing it. Everyone that plays in a game with us gets a raffle ticket, and Sunday morning, we give out a ridiculous stack of prizes. And this year, we almost set a record for ridiculousity…
