IIRC, the first US military air-to-air kill in the Korean War was by an F-82.
-
What is the advantage to that configuration? Backup pilot?
-
Extreme long range due to having two pilots and all that extra fuel carried internally and also in multiple external tanks. It was designed to escort B-29s all the way to Japan and back, something no other escort fighter could do.
-
Staggerwing is right on top of his game - if you own a twin mustang I'm really going to be pissed ;-)
-
I wish!
-
This is an interesting fact :
"...in 1947 when a single F-82 rigged with fuel pods flew non-stop from Hawaii to New York — a distance of more than 5,000 miles. The Feb. 27 voyage, which took just over 14 hours to complete, still holds the world record for the longest non-stop distance travelled by a piston-engine fighter."
-
^that is cool :bigthumb:
-
I wonder if they thought about doing a Twin F-22 ;) Imagine how crazy that'd look !
-
...or maybe a twin F35 if they could get two working at the same time..............

Just strange to have a dream about an obscure plane, and then to see a post the same week
-
Tuna, any chance you dreamed about a string of 6 random 2-digit numbers recently? Oh, and and an associated day in the near future would be helpful too.
