Using MOO1 (*not* MOO2) as its main inspiration, Dominus Galaxia is a space 4x game that emphasizes grand-strategy over micromanagement (website).  It's currently running a Kickstarter campaign, although there is already a fully-playable beta (which you can download and try out here).

For all the Kickstarter/crowdfunding "fatigue" out there (and the developer openly acknowledges this), I have to admit I'm excited for Dominus Galaxia despite everything.  The beta is pretty fun to play, and has solid mechanics and systems already in place.  It's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of the genre!

Ok, I'll take a look but I'm STILL waiting for Birth of the Federation 2.

You and me both, man.  No one will be more ecstatic for a BOTF sequel than myself!

Unfortunately, BanzaiCat is only too correct about how long we're likely going to have to wait before that happens.  In the meantime, however, there's a ton of 4x/grand-strategy games out there these days...a number of which are actually pretty good.  :)

Man, I haven't checked out DG in a while.  I wonder what sort of progress has been made?  I know Jeff is still working on the game (he's active on Discord), but he hasn't uploaded a new build in forever.

Heh.  Yeah, the old dream.  :dreamer:

I'm still a bit surprised -- not very, but a little -- that there's never been a serious attempt at a sequel.  Star Trek seems like such an obvious setting for a 4x/grand-strategy game, and there's obviously a ton of lore & content a developer could draw from.  I'm wondering if perhaps the licensing rights are either too expensive and/or too difficult to be worth obtaining?
