Yeah, the costs of designing and building durable custom molds for injection-molded game pieces (or computer cases, or what-not) and then using those molds in high-volume injection machines is wicked high.

There are some ways to get smaller single figurine, low-volume molds made cheaply and there are also hobby-grade injection machines for under a grand but those would never be able to handle kickstarted-level demand.
