Finally yesterday pulled a recent acquisition off the shelf. Given the unorthodox nature of it tried to get the first lady interested but to no avail. ( comes down to the - serious history stuff - not being the household interests apart from me ). Anyway I am split brain enough to enjoy it solo.

It plays fairly fast and seamless with a very cool bounce between initiatives. A good game that combines a lot of mechanisms to tell the history of that little corner of the world.

I suck at reviews, for me everything is pretty and awesome  :)

I'm still learning it, discovering the particular history theme and playing it a few times before I come to a conclusion. So far I can only say it is really a nice "story unfolding" wargame. It has lots of nice chrome "hidden" in plain view and the evolution and regress of the fight between the reds and the whites in the city ( before germans manage to support ) provides some good tension and even good laughs ( Finnish humour is great ).

Combat may not please the "salty grogs" but that's the design process in plain view. It is not the concern of the player how many combatants each unit has and what type of rifles and how many packs of smoke herrings. It really does more good being that simplistic than not. It kicks the ball forward and the storyline moves in a credible way - turns are counted in German Intervention initiatives in intervals of 15 minutes ( average ) with also night time turns.

Is not your shiny glossy pretty game. It is a fantastic graphic design in play good sturdy paper. All the visuals just scream the era the game portrays.

As of today not much more to say. The Whites had some luck with red and germans drawing initiatives so they get to go and their cells popping all over western helsinki. Reds has to counter it by sending troops and starting arrests. Germans facing very hard fighting in the NW approaches to the town.

Last turn I played the Reds won 2 consecutive initiatives and reinforcing the lines outside the town and at the same time preparing to sweep through Helsinki to win decisively early on before the Whites start to properly organize combat units.

Is a fantastic game.

My science officer discovered an ancient graveyard for a billion soldiers on a desolate planet in the middle of nowhere.  Unfortunately, too much time has passed for  anything further to be discovered, so the story of these fallen warriors will remain forever unknown.  It left me feeling kind of sad, or at least melancholy.

Damn this game for giving me feels.

Indeed.  It's a textbook example of why Stellaris has me in its clutches; the story elements really do grab me.

^  Pretty much, yeah.  I was actually thinking of renaming the planet to that (assuming I end up annexing the system it's in).  Seems fitting.

Opened the Aragon campaign for 1212AD - it starts immediately with a battle between the Catholics and Muslims, an alliance of Castille and Aragon vs the Moors

This is me on the hill looking down into the valley

This is them in the valley below - holy crap

Here comes Castille

I decide to cover the left flank, and go all sneaky

and Castille hit the centre

It starts getting messy on the downward slope

I move to the forest on the left flank where the Almohad missile troops are massed

and lay into the crossbowmen hiding there

The left flank is pretty much ours

But we find a few infantry men hiding in the trees

Castille kill the enemy leader and the rout is on

its all over

Nice!  :bigthumb:  I still can't get over how good the units look.

(Was Navarre part of the battle as well?  I seem to recall they participate too, although their army is smaller than that of Aragon and Castille.)

Let us know how the campaign is!  I'm curious as to the progress the mod team has made so far.

Is that mod for Thrones of Britannia, RTW2, Atilla, or MTW2?  Looks good.
