Podcast of an older lecture (2006) in a class about analysis.  Discussion about why/how the Israelis were surprised in the Yom Kippur War

Some classroom administrivia up until about 12:00 mark.  Some source discussions (incl Jane's) for another 5 or so minutes after that, then really digs into the war.

A lot can be laid down to the individual's expectations, is my two cents worth.
The afternoon before the actual attack, NATO South put out an alert because of Egyptian movements.  The captain discussed with the department heads.  The consensus was if the Israelis aren't worried, then we shouldn't sweat it.

"We've got the torpedo damage temporarily shored up, the fires out and soon will have the ship back on an even keel. But I would suggest, sir, that if you have to take any more torpedoes, you take 'em on the starboard side."   Pops Healy, DCA USS Lexington.
