The Confederates have grabbed Leetown but were pushed out...though it's still under Confederate control for the moment

The Union have put some blocking forces to the west and north of Welfley's Knoll and managed to hold back The Missouri State Guard and Price's Division at Elkhorn Tavern

The Confederate low morale is a bugger in this scenario. They're generally attacking at 1 or 2

I think the Union have screwed up (and by the Union, I'm referring to me). I thought a dismounted cavalry unit and a horse artillery unit were enough to use as a blocking force. It wasn't and now the centre has opened up.

If the Confederates get the victory location on Telegraph Road, they'll have 2 victory locations on the first day and win...if they can hold them until 17:00 (it's currently 14:00) which is entirely another matter

I really, really love this game...but combat can get very, very messy and confusing

JD, would you mind cross-posting the stuff over here so we can bulk up the Battle Hymn thread?

Rules proofing and development for Assault Games -  'Assault - Sicily '43' at present, but on the PC I got the 'Skyrim' urge again so that has been getting a lot of play for the last few days.

It's going slow for the Soviets. I actually don't know how I can meet the victory conditions on turn 4 of getting 12 or more VPs.

I didn't manage it...I only managed a meagre 9 points...starting again

I Kickstarted Fighters of the Pacific a couple of years ago.  My copy finally arrived this week so we're hopefully going to get a game in today.  I set it up last night and played through a few turns solo just to get comfortable with the rules.  It's a very simple rules set and it's fully deterministic.  No randomness at all.  It almost feels a bit like playing Go, but with pieces that move across the board.  I'm not sure if it's fully my cup of tea, but I'm intrigued to try it out.

We ended up playing a couple of scenarios. The first took place off Guadalcanal.  4 destroyers from the Tokyo Express are trying to get supplies through.  They have 9 A6M2 Zeroes flying cover.  The Americans send in an uncoordinated strike.  4 Wildcats start on the map with 6 mire showing up on tytn 4.  This is followed by 4 TBD Devastators arriving on turn 8 and finally 6 SBD Dauntlesses on turn 12.  The scenario lasts 20 turns or until all Japanese destroyers are sunk or have exited the map.

We played this one twice and switched sides for the 2nd playthrough.  The Americans lost all their planes both times.  They sank 2 destroyers and damaged one in the first scenario and sank 3 in the second.  The Jepanese eked out a narrow victory in both sessions.  35/32 points in the first and 38/35 in the second.

The ship's AA seems a bit too deadly and the rules for torpedoes need clarification as there's no mention in the rules for their total run time.

We decided to try one without ships so we played the ambush of Adm. Yamamoto scenario.  6 P-38s try to knock down 2 G4M bombers being escorted by 6 A6M5 Zeroes.  The 20mm tailguns on the G4Ms is devastating.  The P-38s need to get in close to do real damage but in doing do, they get torn up really badly.  I think the key for the US player is to break formation and have each P-38 operate independently.  It'll cost the US the initiative but it's mire likely that a few of the P-38s will be able to slip past the Zeroes make slashing attacks against the bombers.

I am playing Inferno from the Levy & Campaign series.

I really enjoy the system, but the rules are godawful.

The Ghibeline forces from Siena attempted to lift the siege at Cortona. Instead, one lord (Provenzano Salvani) was routed from the field.
Then, when Cortona fell to the besieging Guelph forces, nearby Asinalunga revolted against the Ghibelines.
