Any of you actually play T&T before? Looks interesting. Trying to read a bit of the rules but can't spend too much time on it today unfortunately.

81-89 or so. Not for a long time since then tho

I've heard of the game, but not much. I had no idea it was that old until I saw the publish date on some of them (1981 on one, 2017 on another). That kind of longevity speaks volumes.
Also that there's a LOT of solo modules, which is awesome. And that many are authored by Michael Stackpole.

T&T was basically the second FRPG... ever.
The designer has been well-chronicled in the way in which is 'borrowed' from D&D and why he changed the things he did. The original localized self-published version was '75, I think.
There was a big push in the early- and mid-80s to make it the D&D alternative, and then 2nd Ed just crushed it underfoot.
The other problem T&T had was that it was never sufficiently differentiated from D&D the way RuneQuest was, where it never had the depth of the world that Glorantha had, and the class-and-level system was too similar to D&D.
-
I'm seeing the similarities, but there's intriguing differences, such as spending adventure points to increase stats.
-
Had a friend in HS who kept trying to get us to play T&T, but could never drag us away from DnD. We probably should have tried it; it looked pretty good.

I'm sure the most recent Mrs Gygax will try to extract her pound of flesh with another "woe is me" tale about how no one respects her as the keeper of Gary's memory, but let's hope not

Goodman Games is having their annual Black Friday sale. Discounts are 40% or 20% depending if it is in-house or other supplier. I got $150 worth of stuff for about $92 with free shipping.
This time I picked up Mutant Crawl Classics hardback, judges screen, a number of modules, their weird dice set, and a couple of other things.
Did you get the glow in the dark version of their weird dice set? I did. 8)

Never, at least until I get a glow in the dark board and glow in the dark rounded corner counters.

Goodman Games is having the best pdf sale on Dungeon Crawl Classics, Xcrawl, and other products that I've seen. They put a couple of hundred titles on sale for $1 each.
See: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/36/Goodman-Games/subcategory/187_4930/3E-Products
I bought $39 worth of stuff for 36 items - more stuff than I'll probably be able to read in the next couple of years. I've found that pdfs of adventure modules and game settings works better for me than print. I'm only getting hard cover rules now (unless it is a freebie for running stuff for Chaosium).
Thanks for the heads up! I bought a couple of modules at $1 each but I also noticed that Dungeon Crawl Classics #51: Castle Whiterock (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/50947/Dungeon-Crawl-Classics-51-Castle-Whiterock) was on sale for $5.00. It is a complete campaign (over 700 pages) that normally sells for $59.99!
-
holy crap.... that's a great deal, but I honestly have no idea when/if I'd ever get to it
-
holy crap.... that's a great deal, but I honestly have no idea when/if I'd ever get to it
And when has that stopped you before - at that price point?
For PDFs? More than you think.
I'm far more willing to go nuts on a crazy sale for a physical copy of something where I've got a book to flip thru, maps to lay out and ogle, and maybe even push some minis around just to feel like I'm using it.
I've accumulated plenty PDFs that are free, but not a lot that I've spent money on.
But I've spent waaaaaay more on physical copies of things I could've had in PDF for things I knew I wouldn't get around to playing much any time soon.

Cthulhu sale at DTRPG
https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/199593/Doors-to-Darkness
-
I bought the hardcover version when I took the plunge into 7th ed CoC. It's a mixed bag of 5 adventures. One stands out as very good IMO. 2 are decent and 2 are substandard. I wouldn't pay full price for it but the sale price is worth it if you are looking for some shorter adventures that you can run as one-offs.
The first scenario, Darkness Beneath the Hill is easily the weakest of the lot. I suspect it was written with the mindset that it would serve as a sort of bridge to bring D&D players over to Call of Cthulhu. IMO, it fails. It's basically an extended dungeon crawl beneath a house. There is a lot of back story written for the GM's benefit but none of that information is likely to be passed on to the players so they're just going to be slogging through a maze, fighting hordes of monsters and, because it's CoC and not D&D, likely dying like flies or going insane.
The second scenario, Genius Loci takes place in an asylum (cause you can't have an adventure compilation from Chaosium without at least one scenario taking place in a loony bin) and is heavily focused on investigation. Decent scenario but somewhat problematic in that experienced CoC players will likely guess what they're up against fairly quickly. New players may well get frustrated by their inability to deal directly with the threat.
Servants of the Lake is the third scenario. This one is quite straightforward. Players need to investigate a missing person and wind up at a secluded, creepy hotel by a lake. Lots of sneaking around, eavesdropping, and breaking and entering. Easily can spin out of control with some failed stealth roles which might require some on the fly adjustments by the GM to keep it from going off the rails. The final encounter will likely be very, very deadly for the players.
Ties That Bind is the other disappointment in the collection. The "mystery" should take nearly any group all of 5 minutes to figure out. Then it just becomes a straight up fight. Might work if you run a Pulp version of the game but even then, it'll be relatively short and linear.
None More Black is the final scenario in the book and, IMO, the best of the lot. Students at a university are becoming addicted to and sometimes dying from a new drug that's appeared on campus. Players need to find the source and shut down production. Lots of different investigative paths to take in this one. It's still relatively straightforward (as are all the scenarios) but has more depth than the other scenarios. There's potential for a lot of combat depending on player actions but there are options for the GM to ramp up or down the level of threat in the scenario.

Really big bundle of OSR games on Humble Bundle
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/old-school-fantasy-roleplaying-books

Three new Basic Fantasy role playing are available on Amazon or Lulu for purchase. Two adventure books and an expanded book of equipment. Total cost for all there is $11 or free if you down load from the basic fantasy website. I love this rpg so much. I hope they put together and publish an expanded race and classes book supplement. There are a bunch individually downloadable but a consolidated collection would be awesome.

Big Traveller same at Bundle of Holding
https://www.bundleofholding.com/presents/Traveller4
-
Traveller is a system I really need to look into more seriously. Of course, if I do eventually pick up some of the rulebooks it'll be in paper format.
What I really want is a rules light sci-fi game system which is not Star Wars or Star Trek. I should look more seriously at White Star but its an OSR variant of OD&D set in a Star Wars setting. And the fact it's $40 for a paperback copy of the rules from Lulu. Pretty ridiculous actually.
-
Star frontiers was a pretty decent rules light game.
The alternity/Star•Drive series wasn't bad either.
There are a bunch of different Savage worlds space settings.

Bundle of Holding has a Delta Green RPG sale going on right now. I'm running a campaign for my local group and we're having a blast. I really like their take on modern day Cthulhu mythos. The "history" of Delta Green from the 1920s until now as written in the Handler's book is excellent. I never looked at the original version of Delta Green so I was unaware of the world they established. TBH, the original seems like it's more interesting than the current version as it's got a lot more going on in terms of various sneaky agencies running around, engaging in conspiracies and fighting amongst one another than the current version but I understand that it had become stale for long time players and they wanted to put a new twist on things.
Production values in the rulebooks and scenarios are great. I do find some of the published scenarios are a little lacking though . They're a little lacking in terms of establishing an effective mystery for the players to unravel. They're either far too linear or much of the back story is so buried that the players will likely never learn or understand the reasons behind what they're investigating or up against.

These are based on a series of novels by Charlie Stross. Might be worth the read if you enjoy the setting.
Also - pre-dates his Laundry Files novels, but was probably an inspiration for the setting: http://www.infinityplus.co.uk/stories/colderwar.htm
-
I have the audiobook versions of The Book of Cthulhu Vols I and II. The Colder War story is in volume 1. It's that story which convinced me to pick up a copy of Delta Green in the first place.

^ Damn, I'm tempted by that Alien RPG book. The savings aren't all that great though (10% off) and I'd much rather have the printed book...though that's about $80!
-
I bought the hardcover. It’s not a very good system. Also, there are errors in the hard copy that are fixed in the PDF version.
-
That's a shame. I hardly play RPGs but like having some of the better-looking books on my shelf...which is the D&D Rick and Morty book (hey, it's nice to me) and the Firefly RPG.
I had the Aliens RPG that came out in the late 80s, which wasn't a great system either. I gotta wonder how similar they are.

The art in the book is fantastic.

Not sure i this falls in this category, but the Bard's Tale Trilogy on Steam is only about $8 and it's well worth it. I snagged it last night after looking at the game trailer; the game looks great and it's eminently playable. I had a love/hate with the original Bard's Tale series (the gray-colored sleeve of a bastard that they were), but this is entertaining.

Honestly, I suspect my ignorance (regarding a lot of things, not just this) can probably be chalked up to me being an introverted geek with a fairly sheltered childhood...and who also grew up in a rural area. More specific to the topic at hand, I didn't have a FLGS I could visit and/or hang out at while growing up, so I simply had no idea of what was out there. :-\
-
I can see being out in a rural area with no game store nearby totally cutting into the ability to discover cool new game stuff

Yes, unfortunately. Thanks to my friends, I slowly began discovering RPG's and tabletop games in high school (it's why BattleTech/Mechwarrior will always be a personal favorite), but it wasn't until I was in my early 20's that I truly started realizing what was available.

...should you not be away doing something more constructive instead of inciting people to spend money on games - you know what a weak-willed bunch we are :-)

I kept seeing that at LGS for sale but never pulled the trigger. We have the FFG game and it's good but I have an aversion to IP-based RPGs. I do not like to have to know the multitude of cannon and keep up with it in-game for certain players.

the great thing about the old d6 Star Wars game is that you can really play a TON of scenarios with only the original 3 movies as canon and ignore the rest

Yep, Thorfin has been the key cartographer for Mystara going back to the mid-90s. He's been around a LOOOOOOONG time working on them
I have print copies of both in full-fold-out, and an extra copy of one of them still in shrink

What I find interesting these days about "true to" b/x retro clones isn't that people want to play that style of RPG. But why buy a retro when you can get the actual D&D Rules Cyclopeida from dmsguild for less than $30 for a hardbound book or less than $20 for a softcover and both come with a searchable PFD. Or digital only folk can get the PDF for $10.
Of course this is coming from someone with a soft cover set of Basic Fantasy Rules. In my defense, I can only say the print option was not avalible when I bought them. And it has nothing at all to do with my RPG rulebook collecting impulse.

A game based on raccoon street racers is an inherently fun idea, for one obvious reason: raccoons are terrible drivers.
This is clearly prejudiced against Procyonidae-Americans.
In a game where ghost-wolves and majestic mustaches are considered equally worthy of a roll during character creation, the tongue-in-cheek vibe is obvious. Also, failure when too stressed causes wizards to explode, leading to more hilarity.
Calling Bawbsflyingstache!
Genetically modified supersoldiers, power armor the equivalent of wearing a tank, and an oath sworn to a galaxy-wide, Imperial empire. No, the game is not Warhammer: 40,000, but Nice Marines, a parody of the 40k universe and other Games Workshop games. When a diplomatic support team fails to reach the planet the marines have just liberated, it's up to the galaxy's most lethal and socially awkward soldiers to win the people's hearts. The system uses a variety of dice (d6-d20), to determine how confident the characters are in tasks like holding parades and being nice to civilians. Characters automatically succeed at all combat actions, which are borderline useless given that the mission is a diplomatic one. Worse, every d20 roll except 5-6 means either some kind of failure or collateral damage. Sometimes it's hard being nice.
Ok, I'm in.
Why doesn't this article have links?!
Edit: Most of them seem to be from Grant Howett (https://gshowitt.itch.io/), who posts some to his Patreon. Administrative Carnage (https://www.patreon.com/posts/administrative-48956999?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copy_to_clipboard&utm_campaign=postshare).

'Exploding Wizards facial hair', eh? - or should that be 'Wizards exploding facial hair'? or maybe 'Wizards, exploding facial hair.'
Whatever, I'm keeping well away from it.

I think the board gaming world in the UK is so small, that the board gaming stores here don't often do sales.
SCC has things discounted - but often only 2-7%. I don't think I've ever seen a game on there that's had anything like the percentages seen on these pages.
