Kevin Bertram, board game designer and owner of Fort Circle Games, will discuss ways that tabletop gaming can deepen students' learning of military history. How do games balance historical accuracy and the chance for both sides to have a winning strategy? How can games highlight not just battle tactics, but also the economics, diplomacy, and politics around a specific conflict? This session will include design considerations for history-based games and ways to evaluate potential games to use in a classroom.
