I thought the cover art looked familiar

A warning to everyone not in the know (as I wasn't)...don't leave your games out in the sun.

I used to play my games on the dining table in the conservatory. I didn't realise the sun would have such an impact in such a short space of time (maybe a week - possibly two).

The top is my mounted board that I was playing on...the bottom is the paper map which was safely stored away in the box.

In the flesh, it's alot more stark than it appears in the photo. If you look carefully at the top map, you can see yellow squares in the white hexes where a unit counter was...same with the forests etc...

The boys and I are heading to a small wargame miniatures convention tomorrow. So nothing on my table but we are going to see a bunch of games on a table and hopefully roll a few dice and move some minis around. Otherwise, I have been informed that, and I quote, "Dad, you know they sell minis and games there. We can buy one and just use their tables to play." Well played, son, well played.

A good day of miniatures gaming was had with the boys at the convention.  We got in a game of Circus Maximus (chariot racing), Wings of Glory WW1, and Arena Games Gladiatorial Combat. I was hoping to play some Red Bloody Skies and Victory at Sea but did not get a chance to do so.

That sounds great. Looking forward to one day taking my son to a minis convention.

I really need to take more photos when I go to miniature conventions. But I did take one a photo of the gladiator arena I thought some may find of interest.

The coolest part of the whole setup is the gentlemen who ran the game also made all of the game pieces. He 3D printed the Colosseum and all of the gladiator miniatures for the game. It was really cool and made me reconsider the possibility of 3D printing for gaming.

The sand texture on the colosseum walls is really good. Did he get that using some kind of multi spatter effect or did he actually adhere a layer of fine varied  color sand to the pieces?

I'm still very much into H&M and also 'Assault - Red Horizon 41'. At present, I'm helping to test the Air Support and OBA rules for the games first expansion.

Honestly, I am not sure how he textured the walls. Each section of the wall was about 6 inches. I really liked the mosaic art he painted on the walls.

You can get textured spray paints for this
