Post by: bayonetbrant on December 30, 2019, 05:15:59 PM
What was the biggest news in gaming over the past 10 years? (https://www.armchairdragoons.com/feature/the-decade-of-gaming-in-review/)

Totally agree about kickstarting/crowd funding having a big impact.

I think we can safely discount the impact of pebbled concrete.

Some times you read stuff that people post there, and it makes you glad that you're not sitting opposite them at a games table.

Whenever I try to like BGG, it just never seems to work.

I use it more for looking at games and components than anything else.

While SDR wasn't looking Barthheart ran over to his laboratorium, pushed a few buttons, spun a few dials, and sent Vancouver back in time 1 year.

Decade doesn't end until Dec 31, 2020.

Guilty.  Got dragged into that argument at work and I became the  “acktewally...” guy.  I heard 2-3 different broadcasters on the drive home mention the end of the decade and became more irked than warranted.  Then I saw this thread title, poured myself another gin and jumped in with both feet.

So, most importantly, where can one listen to Bruce Geryk snapping at Marco? I'm the sort of evil person who might enjoy such a thing... ;D

You beat me to it.  Saw the title of the thread and was coming in to make the same point ;)

Honestly, I've never cared much for Marco's reviews.

After hearing Marco's comments in the Undaunted Normandy review, he can go fuck himself as far as I'm concerned.

Yep. If he had just said this is what he prefers now, fine. That's great. But to be such a pompous windbag as to actually think that your word is some sort of creed that all wargame publishers must follow or else is just absurd.

I've always thought that, given the amount of reviews he puts out, that no way can he really have learned / played the games sufficiently to be able to give a valid, informed review. And he plays them all solo only?

He certainly has one heck of a games collection.

And he plays them all solo only?

That caught my attention too. My estimation of him as a reviewer is even lower now.

Quote
"If your favorite games are Advanced Squad Leader and Star Fleet Battles and maybe you think they're a little too simple for you that's fine please enjoy those, no judgement from me, but you are the last generation that will ever play that kind of game. That is a fact."

Sounds like a judgement to me. And maybe not the best way to back up the point by picking two popular game series that have been consistently played for 35-40 years.

Yes, I stupidly let myself get dragged into the argument about how long a decade is.

but you know things have gone bad shit sideways when you unsubscribe from your own thread because you're sick of the idiots

I had forgotten about that thread but just finished reading it.  Quite a train wreck, with very little discussion of the topic itself.  The thread demonstrates that people on BGG will argue about anything.

Any thread in the Wargamers sub-forum just turns into rules lawyers bickering over complete nonsense within a couple of pages. It's inevitable.

 :2funny:

My workplace did the same thing...first day back this year and the Intranet page has a "New Decade" story. The Communications team should be smarter than that.
