I remember having all the games in that series.

The 'friction point' system was very innovative at the time.

I still love and play the series, in fact I maintain the current rules at CSW and BGG. You can purchase updated counters that allow you to play the later 2 games, North German Plain and Donau Front (which used a completely different system to the other 3 games) using the FP system and play a 5 map mega-game.
