Title: The Battle for Wesnoth
Post by: Martok on October 27, 2021, 03:52:56 PM
So after umpteen years in development, Wesnoth has reached version 1.16.  Apparently this is enough of a milestone that the devs released a trailer for it a couple days ago.

I've heard this game referenced a lot over the years, but I still don't really know that much about it.  How does it play?  Who is it meant for?  Can Wesnoth be played/enjoyed as a fantasy grand-strategy game at all, or is that asking too much of it?  If anyone here has spent time with the game, I'd love to hear your take on it.

I've played this off and on for about 15 years and it's a fun game.  Some of the later graphics updates seemed like overkill to me, but the underlying core engine is pretty solid and enjoyable.

One of these days, I'll get around to the full review of the latest build.

I started an article on it back in 2007 and still have the shell of it sitting there

I've played on and off for a number years. (I believe on the recommendation of Brant) Its a fun tactical fantasy game and who can't beat free :)  I did enjoy some of the campaign story arcs that I played and had fun leveling up my core forces from scenario to scenario.
