Title: NATO Designer's Signature Edition
Post by: bayonetbrant on November 05, 2021, 08:54:39 AM
(I'm opening up threads for pretty much all the games I've gotten recently)

I finally got my copy picked up over The Gamer's Armory, so now I have to find time to actually, y'know...  play it

It's on my table right now. Much better than the old Victory Games version and is essentially a new game.

My only complaint is the missing "medium surprise" scenario. They have an Extended Buildup Scenario, and the Strategic Surprise scenario, but if you want to play something "in the middle" (and probably most realistic), they have a "War of Nerves" scenario where the two sides can making escalatory moves before the WP attacks. That adds replayability, but there is no out-of-the-box middle scenario for players who just want to dive into the fighting.

What's the solo suitability? I realize it will need to be played multi-handed, but is there a lot of hidden info? It sounds like that new middle scenario might have quite a bit of bluffing which wouldn't be ideal for solitaire play.

No hidden information. The "War of Nerves" pregame doesn't involve any bluffing (it's not like Persian Gulf's [Third World War]) card-driven pregame.

Very high solitaire suitability.

Per a convo I had with Bruce leading up to The ACDC, Compass is placing another order for ~1500 copies or so

Excellent news.

I wonder if you can just use the Medium Surprise scenario from the old rules?

Bruce still has seats in his game tomorrow morning.  You could sign up to play and ask him then :)

Compass is updating and reprinting.  It's up on kickstarter for a few more hours.  I've backed it this time.

John mentioned in the stream tonight that the reprint should be shipping this month.
