Title: Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion

I didn't realize Ironclad was still putting out patches for this.  Interesting.

Of course, what I'm really curious about -- along with just about everyone else, it seems -- is why they've never made Sins 2.  Enough folks have clamored for a sequel over the years.

Yeah it's crazy that they haven't. I really wish they would, too. Sins is one of my all time favourite games but it's getting long in the tooth now. Last time I tried to play was the first time since getting a second monitor, and switching between them crashes the game. :/

I haven’t been able to run SoSE on a modern machine in many years.

I wish they would work on a sequel as well. But with a larger strategic level.

Agreed.  Without the empire-building aspects, Sins has always felt like just another RTS to me, albeit one that's on a bit grander scale.  I only started the thread here since I know the majority of people consider it a 4x (even if I don't).
