What the Sam Hill is Stadia?

Stadia is Google's attempt to enter the cloud computer gaming market. They announced it during the Game Developers Con in 2019, I think. Here are some articles:

Here's an article from March of 2019 with the annoucement: Google jumps into gaming with Google Stadia streaming service, coming “in 2019”

Here's something a bit more current: Google Stadia’s free demos could prove the value of game streaming)

Here's an updated review from IGN: Google Stadia Review (2020 Update)

Here's an interesting article about cloud gaming in general: Cloud gaming’s history of false starts and promising reboots

Got a wee bit carried away there with linking to info.  :)  Hope that helped.

Sigh. So ANOTHER service to sign up for.
Thanks for the links, Tolstoi.  :bigthumb:

No. I'm just gonna keep waiting for Steam to release something or the game.

I also declined to play the demo (with genuine regret) after Stadia demanded I use Chrome, or nothing.  So I chose nothing.  Google can suck it.  >:(

Weird... I played using MS Edge.  ???
And just used my gaming email as a logon. It was pretty painless actually. Played the scenario twice so far.  :D

Did it automatically sign you up for the recurring $/month after free trial ends? I'm guessing it did.

No it did not. I gave them no payment info. Did not sign up for a free trial.

I tried it. My internet connection is around 100 Mbps but the game looks like crap. I guess I will just wait until release.  :(

Yeah, I’m not a fan of their system and won’t be subscribing...

Given you're (apparently) the only one of us who's managed to actually play the demo, Vance, what are your impressions thus far?  (I can only glean so much from watching videos...)

I enjoyed it very much. Seems deeper than Civ, but maybe that’s just because it’s different.
I very much like the combat system. Armies can have many units/types in them as they move around the map, but when combat happens it becomes 1 unit per hex style combat. Terrain height gives advantage in defence and extra range for ranged units.
Diplomacy so far seems more interesting and choices seem to change a bit as eras pass.
Cities and territory control is very different. The choice between few cities covering large areas or lots of smaller cities is an interesting dynamic that the demo only hints at.
Game is great to look at.
Overall the game is a fresh take on Civ style game play.
April is a long ways away....

This is easily my most anticipated (PC) game. That is all.
