You should probably say what the game is

The Dark Summer ( GMT Games ) aka. the only Normandy campaign operational I will ever need ( for various reasons ).

Aah - I have that - so  :bigthumb:

Care to elaborate?

After checking out Days of Ire, I've now put Longstreet Attacks: The Second Day at Gettysburg on my table.

Since it arrived a couple of weeks ago, 1985: Sacred Oil has been on my table, and it's going to stay there for a while. It's big, it's time-consuming, yes, but it's also fantastic. Playing solo.

Well, it simulates the Normandy campaign up to the breakout in a very elegant and uncomplicated form and does away with stuff that a "army commander" would not be dealing with. Zooms out nicely from the "battalions upon battalions minutiae" of other products.
It can be played to a satisfactory conclusion in a long afternoon. Despite a list of exclusions the rules are robust and easy to catch up at start or after a while not having played it.
WW2 not being my cup of tea and definitely not a operational level aficionado, it is the only game I'll have on that particular operation.

I've almost grabbed The Dark Summer a few times, but I already have the 'designer signature edition' of France 1944 from Compass. I was going to give that a go before I get another Normandy game.

(huffs defensively) I am most certainly not!   8)

I made a decision to play all my games before I buy any new ones. Review copies are fine, but I haven't had any of those in a while. So, I should be busy through 2034.

But by 2023, nothing published today will be new. What's your policy on buying old games?

BC HR Policy #23-A
Buying Old Games

"OLD" games are defined as any game BC does not have...yet.

There is an HR policy I can get behind!

I didn't get The Last Hundred Yards to the table. Instead, I pulled this bad boy out.

Lets get attached to wee counters and cry when Sgt Taylor gets wounded!

One of these days I might get Combat!, i've heard divergent opinions which is usually a sign of an interesting system.

Other than that and following the purchase of 3 new titles from VaeVictis ( posted below for visual cue )...

... I set myself to setup each one of them to check for problems.
Yesterday spent a nightmarish time with Champs de Bataille, which proposes to be a DBM adaptation using hex and counter but found some issues with counters colours and troops types availabilities. Everything is playable, just feels odd, but then it is the first installation of the revamped game system.

Today we ( me and daughter ) got to go through Avec Inifini Regret III setup and it looks splendid. I never ever be short than amazed at the glorious illustrations that VaeVictis, Hexasim, Acies Edizioni, Europa Simulazioni, etc put on their games. Every single unit is a "miniature" in its own right.

Definitely agree with you about the Hexasim games.
