For those of us playing Wednesday evening, there is one suggestion I would make, which is to install the "No Clustered Starts" mod from the Steam workshop.

I've been using it for a couple years now (going back to when I was playing version 2.1), and it does a decent job of ensuring that empire starting positions are roughly equidistant from each other, and that you don't have several empires bunched up together.  The mod works in multiplayer as well, but all players need to have the mod installed (not just the host player), so that everyone has the same checksum.

That's my recommendation, at any rate.  If you guys don't want to play with any mods at all, I understand.  I only recommended this one since it should help improve game balance a little, at least when we're starting out.

It went well... after we figured out how to get it started. Not as straight forward as it should be.
We played for about 3 hours, Martok, Dave Pumphouse, and I. Dave and Martok almost immediately ran into each other... :idiot2:

As Barthheart said, it was pretty fun, once we overcame a couple technical difficulties in the beginning (mostly on my end).

Yeah, Dave & I running into each other so soon was unexpected, if amusing.  :hehe:  We also both quickly encountered the Hobbit Kingdom Zelvan Coalition to the north of us, and I ran into a Marauder empire to my east.

No idea where Vance is at, but he's already triggered the Horizon Signal event-chain (less than 20 years into the game).  I suspect he's in for a particularly interesting time...  ;D

And since i havent played in 3 years and its now a completely different game to how i remember, it was a pleasant surprise when i found out that i had a good lead technologically... But being a theocratic republic that will try and spread its religion on the back of trade i wont be too beligerent...

To perhaps uplift them and assimilate their resources and potential to colonise planets into our own :)

Of course! for the greater good!

But watch them be xenophobes and strive for independance or something... only time will tell!
