I really wish they'd hire a different artist.  Completely subjective I know, but I absolutely despise the art in this series of games both on an aesthetic level as well as for the historical revisionism.

Historical revisionism?

Yeah, the artist went full in on the whole Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion movement in other games in the series so in the Normandy game, you have black soldiers depicted on a lot of the US infantry unit cards.  If the game covered the 92nd in Italy or the 761st tank regiment or had scenarios with, for example, drivers from the Red Ball express, then that'd be representative of historical fact.  As the game is meant to depict a "standard" rifle platoon in Normandy, adding POC on card art smacks of cynical pandering to me.  Same thing with the LRDG card art depicting Sikhs and black snipers in the North Africa game.  Why not just make the game about the 31st Indian Armoured Division or the 34th Indian Infantry Brigade if you want to highlight the contribution of Indian and Gurkha units in North Africa?

I don't think they specify any actual unit names in any of the games, do they?

Is the game depicting any specific unit? And if it is, were there no black soldiers in it? If it's not, where there no black soldiers in any units fighting in Normandy?

It's just a game at the end of the day.

That's actually made me realise that my white privilege didn't even make me question the fact there were no black soldiers depicted in the counter art for one of my favourite solo games...Combat!

Not that I recall.  I believe the Normandy rulebook described the US unit depicted in the game as a generic rifle platoon from the 30th Infantry Division, Normandy 1944.

North Africa described the British units depicted as representative of a typical LRDG patrol.  They added a caveat stating that "the soldiers depicted might not look exactly like the  true LRDG did..."

On an historical note, the much decorated 761st Tank Battalion, 'The Black Panthers' first saw action in October 1944, so they didn't actual fight in Normandy as such.
I think the 'Bulge' was their first major action. They were usually attached to the 26th Infantry Division.

Doubtful, since Undaunted Replacements includes solo rules.

True, and it is somewhat annoying (you make excellent points re: historical units), but I just go with it. I have Normandy, North Africa, and Replacements, and it all just blends together

.

No specific units that I recall, other than as SDR said, the LRDG. I haven't had a chance to crack Normandy open yet but North Africa, IMO, is outstanding, so much so that it made me get Normandy and Replacements.

I don't really mind the inclusion of minorities in work like this. I don't really see that its a major issue since its a game. The US forces were segregated and black troops were subject to really horrid treatment when they returned home and that sort of racist BS is always good to shine a light on but I don't know if a game is really the avenue to do that..

Yah but Reinforcements is specific to those other two games. I can't see them getting you to buy the product for those when none of the cards would work for the Stalingrad set

Fair point; I'll need to take a closer look. I might ask David about it.
