When I was young, I'd play AH Battle of the Bulge.  If I was playing it during my winter break, sometimes the turn would align with the actual date -- e.g., I'd play the 17 December turn on the 17th of December.

I tried to imagine what it would be like to be in the woods or in a icy foxhole with the weight of the German army bearing down on me.  I grew up in southern CA, so it was a little hard to imagine the snowy forest, but playing the game gave me some appreciation of the battle.  That was the second game I ever played, and started my love of the hobby.

I’ve spent half my life’s earning on wargames, women, and drink. The rest I wasted.

Going back a good few years, myself and the bunch of lads who made up our little gaming group, would set up and play SPI's 'Watch am Rhine', or at least, we'd play as much of it as we could over a few nights. Always good fun, so it was.

A friend of mine loved Crusade in Europe so much that I bought him a copy for the C64 for his birthday one year, and we played that a lot, especially the Battle of the Bulge scenario.
