Watched a video...didn't help much at all even though it was over 40 minutes. Basically it reiterated what was in the Solo Assistant manual with some additional flim flam.
I've re-read the Solo Assistant example of play and I know what to do - it's just awkward.
The Solo Assistant manual says you pick a unit, then a card (Page 21 - the writer selects the M113 then plays a card) and deal with the order.
Regarding the cards - where you may think you pick a unit, then a card then play one of the options, you'd apparently be mistaken -
sometimes.
When you take a card, the
Priority orders are for the unit you selected and as long as the parameters are right (LoS, range, correct weapon type). However the confusion occurs (at least for me) when you get to the
Secondary orders.
These state things like
AEO in 0 DB hex closest to a unit or VO and
AEO closest to a unit. So my confusion comes from the fact that you select a unit, go through the priority orders and if none of them are relevant and none of the secondary orders are relevant, you scan your formation for a unit that does fit the bill.
But fit the bill for what? The Priority orders? The Secondary orders? I
guess so.
BU that's my confusion...selecting a unit then playing the card, checking the orders against the unit and then checking other units in your formation...but then you'd do that anyway because - the card is used for the whole formation.
It does specify in the Solo Assistant rules (page 14 bottom of section 6.4.2) that if you get to the bottom of the card and the unit cannot perform an action, it does nothing.
I think I may have cleared my confusion by laying it out here...thanks for wasting your time
