NOTE: the latest version is 2.2 for “Taal’s Fury.” Added some language to allow US and China to maneuver ground units in Scenario 1, and added JCC constraints for US and China in Scenarios 1 and 2. The JCC constraints prohibit both sides from using strategic cyber cards to reflect the more disaggregated and less “exquisite” networks used by pirates and insurgents.

LC community, here’s my latest addition to the scenario library: 3 scenarios linked together as a campaign called “Taal’s Fury.” It is premised on a catastrophic eruption of the Taal Volcano near Manila in the Philippines. The first two scenarios are “gray zone,” “hybrid,” whatever you want to call it—point is, the US and China are NOT shooting at each other but rather attempting to conduct counter-piracy and humanitarian assistance operations to gain local influence that they will leverage in the final scenario, a direct confrontation.

The campaign uses the Luzon and Malacca Strait maps. There is a print-and-play requirement, as the first two scenarios have a third faction (Pirates around Malacca, insurgents on Luzon) playable by a facilitator/instructor, or just someone who wants to cause havoc. The campaign package includes unit counters for the Pirates and insurgents; a few new JCCs for the US and China; a new Event Card; and JCC-type cards that give asymmetric capabilities to the Pirates and insurgents.

FYSA: this is a challenging campaign. Recommended either for experienced players, or with an experienced player/facilitator acting as the Pirates and insurgents in the first 2 scenarios.
