Not definitive, no such thing, and, depending on my mood, I can prefer the designer's other strategic-level games (Napoleonic Wars, Wellington, Kutusov), but I call it classic without hesitation.
It has always been to me the kinder, gentler brother of "Empires in Arms".
The system is straight-forward and the scenarios are each a good study of the campaign in question.
The only problem, which the designer acknowledges, is that the grand campaign never quite worked. This has been one of the biggest goals of the re-design.
Very much looking forward to it. I was in when it was up for pre-order on OSS. Concerned it didn't make the minimum there and hope the KS gets this done.
