Last weekend, I and my two long-time gaming buddies, played the opening scenario of MMP's 'To Take Washington', a game in the 'Line of Battle' series.

It was pretty much a learning game, but the rules are quite easy to follow and we really enjoyed . We subsequently discovered a couple of small errors that we made, but armed with this knowledge we hope to give it another try in a week or so.

Playing this revived my long-time interest in the ACW, and I favour the regimental level. I may look at trying to obtain one of GMT's GBACW series games, maybe 'Twin Peaks'. I think I must have owned all the SPI games from the original  series back in the day.

Interesting to note that the next game in this series, due out later this year, covers several battles from Jackson's Valley Campaign, which is certainly my favourite period.

What do you think of the counters? The ones I saw for None but Heroes looked overly cluttered.

The line of battle series was always intriguing to me. But to be honest, the recently discontinued MMP ACW regimental/brigade burnt me on their ACW offerings. Great games in concept but holy moly were the rules inaccessible. Its one of the things I really dislike about games with a base series rules and a separate rulebook for every game.

I have to say that the counters are functional, but to me, unimaginative, but I do like the LoB system. I like the counters for GBACW much more, but they too suffer from a bit of clutter, which, to a degree, is only to be expected with 1/2" counters.

I was waiting until they finished building it.

I have, in a moment of utter disregard of the possibility of bringing financial ruin down upon our heads, GMT's 'Twin Peaks' from the GBACW series.

Smart man. Don't kick the sandcastle until they're finished!

As it happens, and purely based on a modern perspective of the war, I think of myself as being a Union man.

Played this again today with my two buddies. it really is an excellent system, and we had a good afternoon. My Reb opponent threw in the towel when he realised that he no longer had the combat power to take the scenario objective :-)
