it's not that it's "more" but maybe "other ways to represent it"

As a game/sim scales up from tactical to operational, the level of detail and importance of logistics goes up as well if you are trying to accurately analyze the situation over the increasing time scale. Down at small scale and time the level of abstracted mechanics is easier to implement and users do not have to be counting every bean and bullet.
