You and me both, man.  This is easily one of my most-anticipated games for next year, probably only behind DW2 and the MoM remake. 



For what it's worth, Leyla from Mohawk Games did drop this comment in their Discord today: 

We are not that far along from the Steam release, can’t say more

In addition, a new "Heroes of the Aegean" expansion will be available for free the first two weeks after Old World is released on those platforms (the expansion will also be free for two weeks on the Epic store).

Is this any good? I mean, particularly good? I don't generally reward devs who take the Epic bribe but as I recall there was massive buzz over Old World.

I haven't played in a while but it is good. The diplomacy between nations is different in a good way and you have rulers who die and pass on their empire to their heirs. You can influence this a bit through choices in events. Because of this, if you are on friendly terms with a foreign ruler and they die you could be faced with a new ruler who is a lot less friendly because of previous events in the game. Adds a nice dynamic to diplomacy. This is the largest difference from something like Civ.

It is just old world though, about 300 years (turns) around the rise of Rome era. I found that a bit restrictive as I like all of history but that's just me.

To add to what Barthheart said, the AI is also supposed to be good (not surprising when the game is designed by Soren Johnson).  In addition, his team has added a ton of content in the last year, such as 500 (or so?) new events, to name one example.

FWIW, my understanding is that, had it not been for Epic's money, Old World might not even have gotten made.  The game's previous publishers went belly-up, leaving Mohawk Games suddenly & desperately needing cash to finish development. 

So at least in this instance, I can hardly fault Soren & co. for taking the money in exchange for being an Epic exclusive for a year.  It was that, or nothing.

Some bad news for non-English speakers:  While the game is being released on Steam next week, translations won't be finished until around the end of June...
