Congrats on the victory!  I'm a little surprised they didn't withdraw after you sunk the invasion fleet.

Kind of makes me want to fly a campaign in the Cactus Air Force somewhere. :bigthumb: IL-1946 perhaps? Anything else on modern(ish) systems?

Anyone know of any good books focusing on establishment, operations, and life at that special-ops airbase on New Georgia?

It's been a very long time, but Martin Caidin's Ragged, Rugged Warriors covered this period pretty thoroughly.

"We've got the torpedo damage temporarily shored up, the fires out and soon will have the ship back on an even keel. But I would suggest, sir, that if you have to take any more torpedoes, you take 'em on the starboard side."   Pops Healy, DCA USS Lexington.

“Commander Skull” is my nickname given by fresh scout pilots. There are no experienced scout pilots – only the dead. The sole surviving scout pilot was given a medical discharge for insanity. Scout pilots don “red shirts” for some reason.

Haha, nice.  :bigthumb:

Referencing a comment you made in the the post-analysis, why *didn't* you then send the carriers with TF-UFO South?  Was it because you already knew that it would work, and wanted to see what a riskier/more aggressive approach might accomplish?
