OK - in reply to you question on BGG. despite what I said, even in the basic game, there are some quite interesting subtleties.
In this mission, 'Fight to the Death' there are several ways of getting a victory.
As you know, the Shashka Kingdoms do not earn revenue by occupying a settlement, and if they do control one, then they have to pay 1g per turn to 'maintain' it.
So, when you do take control of a settlement, you can loot it (rule '4.8') for 3g, and at a later stage you can Lay Waste (rule 12.2.2) to it for more gold.
So its a balance between keeping enough gold to buy troops and pay for any settlements that you do keep in order to win. However, note that if you do not have sufficient gold to pay for all your controlled settlements, then your kingdom collapses and thus you lose.
Now it easy to miss, but read the last line of the victory conditions; 'If both player control the same number of Settlements, the Orc player wins. The implication here being that this applies even if neither side controls ANY settlements - its the same number - zero!
Therefore, the Goblins really need to have a least 1 controlled settlement, which means that they need to keep the Orcs from having control of any settlements, or to run out of gold so that they collapse.
From this, you will see that achieving a victory need a bit of thought. Its obviously easy if you're playing solo, but if its a H2H game, you will be trying to work out what your opponents strategy is.
Hope that helps :-)
