Welcome back to #TuesdayNewsday, where we keep you informed on the latest in wargaming
As noted on their official website, the 2024 Zenobia Awards have chosen their finalists to go through the rest of the process, and BoardGameWire has a nice article about the process and synopses of the finalists

We’ve had our convention listings down below in the news for a while now, but hadn’t updated the actual calendar page on our site in a year or so. That’s been fixed!
- Added over 70 conventions to the calendar
- Subscribed to 2 different calendars w/ minis wargaming events on them
- Updated the convention-only extract table below but for some reason it won’t correctly sort on “date”
The 2024 Fall Assembly will be held 11-13 October 2024.
- Both badge & event registration are open; still have some badges available!
- Event flyers in both PDF and PNG format you can share
- Swag alert ~ T-shirts (in 3 different colors), and Pint glasses (plus some on-site exclusives you’ll have to be there to get!)
We’re still moving things from the “to-do” list to the “done” list:
- DONE: finalized official event schedule; plenty of space to add pickup games
- TO-DO: print the table signs with the event schedule for that table for the weekend
- DONE: Catering order for Saturday snacks
- TO-DO: Reservation for Thursday night pre-con hangout
- DONE: Badge design for physical badges
- TO-DO: Print the actual badges (Friday morning; waiting for last-minute registrations)
- DONE: Flyer design and digital distribution
- TO-DO: Print some more to distribute around town for local audiences
- DONE: Ordered some attendee swag
- TO-DO: Get it here through shipping so we can have it ready for attendees!
- DONE: Checked a lot off of the to-do list
- TO-DO: Put more stuff on the list
We’ve got a dozen folks coming in from out of town, so there’s no reason for geography to be a limiting factor on you joining us for the convention. It’s only going to get bigger, badder, and cooler; get in early so you’ve got bragging rights for the future!
Hitting the shelves (and webstores) near you now!
- Warlord Games and Osprey Games have jointly released the 3rd edition of the core Bolt Action rulebook; Osprey order here and Warlord order here1
- Compass started shipping Breaking the Chains 2.0 for all your South and East China Sea hot war shenanigans
- Oy vey… Red Sash Games released Dreams of Empire, their latest Lace Wars series game, buuuuut – it’s not mentioned on their homepage at all, the email announcing its release didn’t include a link, or even a mention of what series the game belongs to, and on the game series’ page it’s at the bottom of the damn page; seems counter-intuitive to make your customers work that hard to (1) find your new game, and (2) give you money for it. Anyway, you can get $50 off until 15 October if you order now
- Wargames Illustrated issue #442 is available
- Now that Kickstarter backers have their copies, Free League has released The Electric State to the public; grab it now so when the big movie gets released next year you can brag about being ahead of the curve
- Muchkin Shadowrun⁉️ Why not?
- OSG’s latest newsletter says they’ve pieced together about 20 copies of Napoleon at Leipzig so act fast to fill in that hole in your collection
- Brian Train released a new freebie on his site called High-Rise and you can download the PDF here
- Strategemata released Crete, 20-22nd May 1941
- BluEncore shared a booth with Fort Circle at GAMA Expo to show off their game War of Civilizations that’s now available for retail
- Osprey also released their Through the Hedgerow RPG
- Steve Jackson Games started shipping Hexagram issue #13
- Napoleonic artillery batteries from Warlord Games
Time to get those orders in now and then either (a) complain that it’s 2 years late, and/or (b) be surprised when it gets here sooner than you thought
- Just in from our buddy Ed2– Mayfair Games has a deal in place to import some English language versions of Weimar: The Fight For Democracy with a planned ship date of Q4 2024 and you can pre-order now on the Mayfair site
